A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird\u2019s chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, \u201cI\u2019m sorry, ma\u2019am, you duck has passed away.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you sure?\u201d the distressed woman wailed.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I am sure. Your duck is dead,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow can you be so sure?\u201d she protested. \u201cI mean you haven\u2019t even done any testing\u2026 he might just be in a coma.\u201d<\/p>\n

The vet rolled his, turned, and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador retriever. As the lady looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the exam table and sniffed the duck top to bottom. He looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.<\/p>\n

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few moments later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back, shook its head and meowed and softly strolled away.<\/p>\n

The vet looked at the woman and said, \u201cI\u2019m sorry, but as I said this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck.\u201d<\/p>\n

The vet turned to his computer, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.<\/p>\n

She took the bill, still in shock. \u201c$1500!\u201d she cried. \u201c$1500 just to tell me my duck is dead!\u201d<\/p>\n

The vet just shrugged, \u201cI\u2019m sorry, but if you would have just taken my word for it, it would have been $20. With the Lab report and the Cat Scan, it is now $1500.\u201d<\/p>\n
