Today’s sale brought a smaller run.  Market was on a light test, a little stronger more on grass than on alfalfa, with quality that varied and was generally lacking.  **  If you are no longer receiving our newsletter via email, please check your spam folder. ** A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street.

“But officer,” the man began, “I can explain.”

“Just be quiet” snapped the officer. “I’m going to let you cool your heels in jail until the chief gets back.”

“But officer, I just wanted to say…”

“And I said to keep quiet!  You’re going to jail!”

A few hours later the officer looked in on his prisoner and said, “Lucky for you that the chief’s at his daughter’s wedding. He’ll be in a good mood when he gets back.”

“Don’t count on it,” answered the fellow in the cell. “I’m the groom.”

** Winters are fierce in Minnesota where he lives, so the owner of a construction project felt he was doing a good deed when he bought earmuffs for his foreman.  Noticing, however, that the foreman wasn’t wearing the earmuffs even on the coldest snowy day, the project manager asked, “Didn’t you like the earmuffs?”  The foreman said, “They’re a thing of beauty.”  “Why don’t you wear them?”  The project manager said.  The foreman explained, “I was wearing them the first day, and somebody offered to buy me lunch, but I didn’t hear him!  Never again!”

Market was steady to weaker today. Quality was a little lower than what we have been seeing. Buyer interest was fair. Remember: Monday and Thursday sales continue through the end of April

Today’s sale brought heavy volume with a low market. The quality of alfalfa was up and down but generally decent. Grass hay was pretty decent with cornstalks and straw both steady.  It also brought good buyer attendance leading towards a buyers market.

** My husband and I purchased an old home in Northern New York State from two elderly sisters.  Winter was fast approaching and the year’s first snow came early and I was concerned about the house’s lack of insulation.  “If they could live here all those years, so can we!” my husband confidently declared.  One November night the temperature plunged to below zero, and we woke up to find interior walls covered with frost.  My husband called the sisters to ask how they had kept the house warm.   After a rather brief conversation, he hung up.  “For the past 30 years, he muttered, “they’ve gone to Florida for the winter.”
